Robotics

Shalhevet’s Team 6000 is the first Yeshiva high school robotics team in the United States to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), where teams from across the world compete to design, build and operate a robot over a six-week building/training period in the winter and spring.

Having just hung our FRC (First Robotics Competition) 2020 Los Angeles Regional Championship banner in the rafters of the Shalhevet gym (joining multiple Red Sarachek Tier 1 and Steve Glouberman championship banners) Shalhevet Robotics continues to fire on all cylinders. While the FRC World Championships in Houston and Detroit were canceled last spring, Team 6000 proudly continues their work in the new school year by welcoming and training recruits with their on-campus through Camp Firehawks workshops. So far, Team 6000 has run comprehensive hands-on tool training sessions and explored the robot’s electronics system and wiring techniques. They’ve analyzed the strong points and weaknesses of their previous robot’s design and developed new robot design ideas and team member roles for the upcoming competition season.

Shalhevet’s Robotics program helps develop important technical and non-technical skills in our students. As a member of Team 6000, students will learn to design, fabricate, iterate, and strategize a competition-ready robot, while also developing critical skills in graphic design, fundraising, and organizational leadership. Team 6000 members also pursue outreach opportunities that aim to bridge STEAM opportunities with their community.

  • Founded in 2015, Shalhevet’s Team 6000 has competed in regional and invitational FRC competition events in Long Beach, Pomona, downtown Los Angeles, and San Pedro.
  • In their first year, Team 6000 won the award for the Highest Rookie Seed at the 2016 Los Angeles Regional Competition, a validating recognition of their potential as a young robotics team.
  • In 2019, Team 6000 earned a top 20 ranking at the Los Angeles Regional, in collaboration with their friends from Team 702 from Culver City High School as their “Shabbat drive team.”
  • Later in 2019, Team 6000 competed in their first off-season competition, Battleship Blast at LA Fleet Week in San Pedro, California.
  • In 2020, Team 6000 took first place FRC (First Robotics Competition) 2020 Los Angeles Regional Champion
  • Since their founding, Team 6000 has been an active member of the Los Angeles-area robotics community, collaborating with fellow FRC teams in Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Culver City.

Nothing is more fun during basketball games, pep rallies, or assemblies than getting SWAG and when it is a t-shirt, our Robotics team came to the rescue and created a cannon that can sometimes even catapult the shirts into the rafters!
